Message from the President
We are pleased to announce the 24th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Digital Pathology and AI (JSDP2026) will be held in Nagasaki City. My name is Yuka Kitamura from N Lab Inc., a venture company originating from Nagasaki University. I am delighted that this meeting, which was once postponed due to the impact of the novel coronavirus, can now be realized in Nagasaki.
Since its founding in 1999, the Japanese Society for Digital Pathology (JSDP) has fostered continuous development through interdisciplinary exchange, bringing together diverse experts including pathologists, clinical laboratory technologists, and companies in the optical equipment and information communications fields. In recent years, the field of pathology has gained global attention with the advancement of high-resolution digitalization of pathological specimens using WSI (Whole Slide Imaging) and the introduction of AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology.
The theme of this conference, “For the Patients behind the slide,” embodies our renewed commitment to always keep in mind the patients behind the glass slide. Digital pathology and AI technologies are not only supporting pathologists but also expanding globally as means to deliver more precise diagnoses and optimal treatments to patients in an accessible manner. Under this theme, the General Assembly invites a wide range of presentations, from the latest research findings to practical clinical applications. As new initiatives: 1. From a patient advocacy perspective, we will hold a “Patient Education Session” and a “Public Lecture” to raise awareness of pathology among a broader audience through digital technology and AI. 2. Furthermore, the practice of digital pathology cannot proceed without the cooperation and education of clinical laboratory technologists. To promote digital innovation within each institution, we are also planning a special “Hands-On Seminar Focused on Pathology Technologists.” As someone leading this society from both corporate and clinician perspectives, I sincerely hope this conference will be fruitful and contribute to the development of all participants. I look forward to engaging in lively discussions about new innovations with you all in Nagasaki, the birthplace of Western medicine in Japan.
